Malcolm Broomhead, Chairman

Mr Malcolm Broomhead was appointed by the Board of Directors of Asciano Limited as a Non-Executive Director on 22 September 2009 and as Chairman of the Board on 23 October 2009. Malcolm is Chairman of the Nomination and Succession Planning Committee.

Malcolm was Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Orica Limited from 2001 until September 2005. Prior to joining Orica Limited, Malcolm held a number of senior positions at North Limited including as MD and CEO. 
 
Prior to joining North Limited, Malcolm held senior management positions with Halcrow Group Limited (UK), MIM Holdings Limited, Peko Wallsend Limited and Industrial Equity Limited. 
 
Malcolm is a non-executive director of BHP Billiton Limited, BHP Billiton Plc and Coates Group Holdings Pty Limited.

Malcolm holds a Bachelor of Engineering and an MBA from the University of Queensland.

John Mullen, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer

Mr John Mullen was appointed Chief Executive Officer by the Board of Directors of Asciano Limited on 14 February 2011 and as Managing Director on 1 April 2011.

John was the Global CEO of DHL Express from 2006 to 2009 and Joint CEO in 2005. Prior to this, he was CEO of DHL Express Asia Pacific and held senior positions with the TNT Group for 10 years.

John is a non-executive director of Telstra Corporation Limited (“Telstra”) and prior to joining Asciano was also a non-executive director of Brambles Limited and MAp Airports Limited.

Previously, John held various general management positions in TNT Limited, Compagnie Internationale de Restauration (CIR) and NACAP BV, Delft, Holland.

John holds a Bachelor of Science from The University of Surrey, UK.

Chris Barlow, Non-Executive Director

Mr Chris Barlow joined Asciano Limited as a Non-Executive Director on 15 June 2007. Chris is Chairman of the Remuneration Committee and a member of the Nomination and Succession Planning Committee.

Chris has held a range of senior roles in the transport infrastructure industry for many years. He was the MD and CEO of Australia Pacific Airports Corporation, which was the operator of Melbourne and Launceston Airports.

Chris has over 30 years’ experience in the aviation industry, having joined BAA Limited (formerly British Airports Authority) as an engineering project manager. He subsequently held a number of senior management positions within BAA managing airports and was responsible for its A$1.5 billion business development program.

Chris is currently Chairman of Northern Territory Airports Pty Limited and Melbourne Convention and Visitors Bureau Limited.

Chris is a Chartered Engineer and holds a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Engineering from The University of London.

Dr Robert Edgar, Non-Executive Director

Dr Robert Edgar was appointed by the Board of Directors of Asciano Limited as a Non-Executive Director on 22 September 2009. Bob is a member of the Audit and Risk Committee, the Remuneration Committee and the Nomination and Succession Planning Committee.

Bob had a successful career at the ANZ Banking Group (“ANZ”) spanning more than 25 years including the role of Deputy CEO. Other roles with ANZ included Chief Operating Officer; MD - Institutional Financial Services; and Chief Economist. 

Before joining ANZ, Bob held senior positions with the Australian Bankers’ Association and prior to that he worked at the Reserve Bank of Australia. 
 
Bob is a non-executive director with Linfox Armaguard, Nufarm Limited, AMMB Holdings Berhad and the Transurban Group, and is Chairman of the Prince Henry's Institute of Medical Research.

Bob holds a Bachelor of Economics with Honours from The University of Adelaide and a PhD from Ohio State University.

Peter George, Non-Executive Director

Mr Peter George was appointed a Non-Executive Director of Asciano Limited on 5 March 2007. He is Chairman of the Audit and Risk Committee and a member of the Nomination and Succession Planning Committee.

Peter has been a non-executive director of PMP Limited since 2002 and is an experienced executive and non-executive director specialising in corporate strategy and finance including acquisitions, divestments, company refinancing and turnarounds.

Peter was a non-executive director of Optus Communications from 1994 to 1998. He was the former MD of B Digital Limited from 2004 to 2006 and Executive Director of Strategy and Policy for Cable & Wireless Optus Limited from 1998 to 2002.

Peter holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws.

Shirley In't Veld, Non-Executive Director

Ms Shirley In't Veld was appointed a Non-Executive Director of Asciano Limited on 1 November 2010. Shirley is a member of the Nomination and Succession Planning Committee. Shirley serves as the Managing Director of Electricity Generation Corporation and has been Managing Director of Verve Energy since April 2007.

Previously, she held senior positions with Alcoa Australia, including MD of Alcoa Australia Rolled Products. She also worked with WMC Resources Ltd, Bankwest and the legal firm Mallesons.

Shirley serves as a director of Electricity Generation Corporation and Energy Supply Association of Australia.

She previously served on the board of directors of Alcoa of Australia and was a member of the Australian Aluminium Council and the Packaging Council of Australia.

Shirley holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws with Honours from The University of Melbourne.

Geoff Kleemann, Non-Executive Director

Mr Geoff Kleeman was appointed by the Board of Directors of Asciano Limited as a Non-Executive Director on 22 September 2009. Geoff is a member of the Audit and Risk Committee, the Remuneration Committee and the Nomination and Succession Planning Committee.

Geoff had a long career as a senior executive in a listed company environment and was Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”) at Crown Limited. Prior to that, Geoff was the Chief Financial Officer at Publishing & Broadcasting Limited and was also Chief Financial Officer at Woolworths Limited from 1996 to 1998. 

Geoff is a member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, commencing his career with Deloitte and working there for a number of years before becoming Chief Accountant at Industrial Equity Limited and Finance Director at Pioneer Concrete.
